New Training Bot by Puma Trains Athletes Against Usain Bolt
Train with Puma’s Beat Bot to beat Usain Bolt, The Fastest Man Ever Timed, on the tracks and become the ultimate athlete
Known as the fastest man ever timed, Usain Bolt the Jamaican sprinter is soon expected to face the competition. The fastest man on the earth will soon have a bot meant to train people to match Mr. Bolt's thunder speed. In order to keep up with his speed, and to defeat him, Puma has designed a training bot, named BeatBot that encourages individuals to improve their speed.
The robot races against humans and takes physical training to a whole new level. BeatBot is a small shoe-box like robot on four wheels, and looks similar to a small remote-controlled toy Hummer. It has been designed specifically to improve athletes; with an accelerometer and infra-red sensors to keep them aligned in lanes on the track. The bot also sports an Arduino microcontroller, and a front-facing camera to help it track speed and distance.Puma claims that the data collected by the device, makes more than 100 adjustments/second while racing a human. For accurate results, it uses real-time tracking so that sprinters can push even further in every race to beat the champion. BeatBot is controlled through an iOS application allowing runners to set pace and time goals. The runners can then keep track of performance and improve accordingly. The BeatBot has been programmed to match the speed of Mr. Bolt, who can hit 44.66 km/h.
Although the bot is just a prototype for now, it has allowed us believe that robotics will soon be a part of physical fitness. In the near future, we may see more technical stuff being used to improve human health given that obesity and health issues have increased over the past few years. We can even come to a conclusion that in the future, trainers can be replaced by robots, and training machines will be technically advanced to improve fitness as much as possible. This next generation tool is just the beginning; there will be plenty more coming up soon.
