HTC 10 Vs. OnePlus 3 – The #Powerof10 Vs. The Alleged Flagship Killer

HTC 10 might be the device HTC needed, is OnePlus 3 the smartphone we need?

HTC Corporation recently revealed its 2016 flagship ─ the HTC 10. Amid all fanfare and hype, the smartphone is turning out to be a revival of the HTC One M7. We decided to pair up the #powerof10 specifications with the upcoming flagship killer from OnePlus, the OnePlus 3.
The media is taking its turns to praise the HTC 10; some claim it is what HTC needed while others say that the phone is a good all-rounder, but it doesn’t stand out from the crowd. While HTC is getting ready to ship the device, folks at OnePlus are gearing up to generate hype for the OnePlus 3.

Display

The comparison between screen sizes is not on equal footing. This is because HTC 10 comes with a 5.2-inch display while the OnePlus team is a huge fan of the 5.5-inch display. HTC has utilized the Super LCD5 technology for the display and has pushed the resolution up to 2K. The OnePlus 3 albeit has a bigger display screen, it needs to push up those pixels and go beyond 1080p or trail behind HTC 10.

Processor, RAM, and Storage

The HTC 10 utilizes the latest processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 820. However, OnePlus is known to question the status quo as well and houses the top industry processor. So, the OnePlus 3 might also carry Snapdragon 820, which is the industry standard this year.
HTC 10 comes with a 4GB RAM with two storage options ─ 32GB and 64GB. Users also have the option to expand the storage further with a microSD card slot that can support up to 2TB. OnePlus 3 would also tout a 4GB RAM, but we think the storage situation might be reconsidered by the company. OnePlus 2 came in two versions, 16GB, and 64GB with no expandable storage. We think OnePlus 3 would continue both variants, but introduce the microSD card slot. It is high time the company should address that in its flagship smartphone.

Camera

HTC has been criticized in the past for its mediocre performance of its camera makers. The UltraPixel technology introduced in One M7 onwards was not quite impressive. However, the company vowed to change all that and hence, the HTC 10 comes with a new camera with the UltraPixel 2. The rear sensor on the HTC 10 is a 12MP with a f/1.8 aperture, OIS, and Laser AF. The front sensor is a 5MP with the same aperture and OIS.
OnePlus, on the other hand, is known for a decent camera department. The camera is not something that would make the phone stands out and we think the company could try changing that fact with the OnePlus 3. Rumor has it that the OnePlus 3 rear sensor would be a 16MP while the front sensor will be 8MP.

Battery and Other Features

The HTC 10 houses a 3,000mAh battery, pretty standard on a flagship lineup that falls under this category. However, for the OnePlus, the company has pushed limits with the battery as well. The OnePlus One has a 3,100mAh battery, the OnePlus 2 houses a 3,300mAh and we can only speculate that in the OnePlus 3, the company might push it to 3,500mAh.
HTC 10 boasts that audio quality is better than what users have experienced on its devices to date. The BoomSound technology is back along with Dolby Audio, however, the front speaker grilles are gone. The fingerprint sensor is included in the home button this time and USB Type-C for charging is also present.

The OnePlus 2 was the first smartphone to house USB Type-C technology and it won’t come as a surprise that OnePlus 3 to follow the footsteps. OnePlus doesn’t go big on sound as well, but with the OnePlus 3, it could change all that. The fingerprint scanner is expected to be there on the home button as well. However, the company is known to think out-of-the-box and experiment with its phones. Probably this time around, it would push toward wireless charging, IP68 certification, and position itself on high-quality camera and sound. HTC 10 is currently retailing at $699 for the unlocked variant; this is where the OnePlus beats the flagships. It prices its devices in such a way that the competition becomes uneasy. This is the case with major Chinese smartphone brands, such as Xiaomi and Huawei. We think the OnePlus 3
