HTC 10 Shocks Samsung Galaxy S7 And iPhone 6S with its Performance

HTC HTCCY +% has today announced the company’s latest flagship handset, the HTC 10 and early reports indicate that it has a truly stunning camera.
Testers at the respected benchmarking outfit, DxO Labs have already placed the HTC 10 right at the top of its DxOMark Mobile chart, tying for first place with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with a score of 88 points.
Praised as “A great all-rounder for stills and video”, the HTC 10 scores well in both photo and video tests

Like many other current flagships, including the Galaxy S7 and the iPhone 6s, the HTC 10 comes with a 12 megapixel camera, but HTC’s handset features a larger sensor with bigger 1.55micron pixels, combined with a wide-aperture f/1.8 lens. This combination improves the light-gathering capability of the sensor, thereby reducing unsightly image grain. It’s also the first smartphone to include optical image stabilisation on both the front and rear cameras.

DxO Labs praises the HTC 10 in particular for its level of detail in all lighting conditions where it pulls ahead slightly from the Galaxy S7. The Galaxy S7, however, performing better at video, thanks to superior autofocus and image stabilisation.
Interestingly, it’s only thanks to rounding errors that both phones emerge with an overall score of 88. If you look closely at the results breakdown, you will notice that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge achieves the most points overall. Where the HTC 10 scores 88 for photos and 86 for video, the Galaxy S7 Edge actually scores 88 for both, suggesting fractionally superior video performance on the latter.

Nitpicking aside, this level of performance marks a dramatic improvement and a return to form for HTC after disappointing results from the HTC ONE M9 and HTC ONE M8 before it.
To put this into context: the Galaxy S7 has improved its DxOMark Mobile score by just one point since the Galaxy S6. Similarly, the iPhone 6s achieves the same DxOMark Mobile score as the iPhone 6. The HTC 10, on the other hand, beats the HTC ONE M9 by a huge 19 points.
So, if HTC’s camera performance has turned you away in the past, it’s time to take another look.
